A
Comprehensive Five-Day Workshop In San Diego, California presented
By:

The number
of attendees to this course is limited and only pre-registered students will be
allowed to attend the workshop.
GD&T: The Common Language
Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) is a discipline developed to
communicate engineering configuration from the designer to the manufacturer
through engineering drawings. It is used primarily to alleviate
misunderstandings and, thus, provide complete and concise meanings to the
production team members.
Seeing the value of GD&T, industry and the Department of Defense adopted
American National Standard Institute standard Y14.5 as a national guide ensuring
commonality within American industry.
A complete understanding of GD&T is vital for tearing down the walls of
misunderstanding.
Knowing The Language Is The Key
The new ASME Y14.5M-1994 standard on dimensioning and tolerancing was released
in 1995. The majority of the GD&T symbology has remained unchanged, however
there has been some symbol modifications, and a considerable amount of new
material added.
When you complete this workshop you will understand the language of GD&T
symbology.
We will discuss the changes and the majority of the additional material
initiated by the new GD&T standard. The former ANSI Y14.5M-1982 standard
will also be covered in detail since most existing drawings were generated to
that standard.
Is This Workshop For You?
It is if you need to communicate with engineering drawings.
For those who have no prior knowledge of GD&T, this course will offer
material starting at the entry level and progressing to advanced GD&T
concepts.
For those with previous GD&T experience, you will receive a valuable update
on the latest standard and a thorough review, along with instruction in advanced
concepts, which will tie all the GD&T principles together.
Who
Should Attend?
Engineering: Design engineers, structural engineers, drafters, drawing checkers.
Manufacturing: Manufacturing engineers, process engineers, planners, machine
programmers, tool and gage designers, toolmakers, machinists.
Quality: Quality engineers, CMM programmers, parts inspectors.
Others: Managers, project engineers, machined part purchasing, procurement
personnel.
What You'll Get Out Of This Workshop
 |
In this five-day workshop you'll learn how to
specify GD&T on design drawings and, thus, convey the right message to
engineering, production and inspection personnel.
|
 |
You'll learn how to cut manufacturing costs
significantly by taking advantage of GD&T concepts that allow maximum
production tolerances.
|
 |
You'll be exposed to proper inspection
techniques for each of the geometric tolerancing controls.
|
 |
You'll learn how to design functional gages
for part verification.
|
 |
You'll learn proper datum specifications to
ensure interchangeability of mating parts.
|
 |
You'll gain a working knowledge of all
elements of ANSI Y14.5M-1982 and the new ASME Y14.5-1994 standard.
|
 |
Through actual drawings you'll learn how to
avoid common errors encountered with GD&T, both from a drawing and
manufacturing standpoint.
|
 |
All materials are provided, and you'll receive
your own copy of Design Dimensioning and Tolerancing by Bruce A. Wilson,
and a binder packed with useful reference materials.
|
With Our Teaching Techniques You Can
Leave This Workshop A Competent GD&T User
In
this workshop you will view over 900 overhead transparencies; you'll gain a
"hands-on" experience by examining over 130 authentic parts and tools.
To provide feedback on students' progress, quizzes and homework assignments,
primarily based on correcting actual drawings, are given each day.
Through the homework and quizzes, you'll find yourself generating design
concepts, which properly utilize GD&T principles.
Our Instructor Knows What He's Talking
About
MICHAEL SANDFORD began working with GD&T in 1983 as a new employee in
the aerospace industry. In his position as a mechanical design engineer, Mr.
Sandford has specialized in optic and mechanical packaging. Mr. Sandford has
designed machined hardware, castings, tooling and test equipment. He holds
several patents in the aerospace industry and has experience in machine shop,
assembly and inspection processes. Mr. Sandford has been instrumental in the
creation and technical review of design documentation for over 20 years.
Mr. Sandford is a certified ASME Senior Level Geometric Dimensioning and
Tolerancing Professional.
