Author Guidelines

We are a non-profit society and therefore, do not have the means to compensate the level of professional talent that our profession requires to keep it moving forward. However, our past authors have found numerous reasons to justify volunteering their time and efforts with a few mentioned reasons listed below as follows:

  • Many of our authors have ASQ certifications which require on-going maintenance. One method of doing this is by becoming a section 703 published author. One re-certification credit is given by ASQ for every article published.

  • By becoming an author your message, products, and or business presence is announced to the entire San Diego Quality community for years to come via our web site, and our mailings.

  • One way to further ones career is to provide evidence that he/she is a leader in their related profession. Becoming an author looks good on the resume.

  • By guiding others, the entire quality profession benefits. Therefore, it's a good way to pay back society for your good fortune in life.

  • It's a good way to gain writing experience and or to test out important ideas you might want to write a book on later on.  Our review board will assist you in your journey.

Send your articles to us and at least three officers will review it.  If we don't find any highly poorly supported controversial or offensive areas, gross errors, or obvious typos, we will publish it with your approval.  Note, once it's published on our site, other publications may be hesitant to publish it again in that form. If we do find concerns, we will send them to you and you can make adjustments or send the paper to another source.  Other sources such as those found in this library almost all have author guidelines and or author submission guidelines but you have to ask for them or search hard on their websites.

Authoring Tips:  Tom Pyzdek (author of dozens of Quality books and hundreds of papers) claims he uses a 5x rule such that after he thinks he has finished an article, he puts it aside and re-reads it five different times on five different occasions.  The final paper is then send off to peer review so that before it is published, the paper has been scrutinized many times with many different mind sets.  One belief is that the tactical goal when writing is to reduce the reader variation of thought around the mean idea you are trying to present, unless you want to totally confuse them <smile>.

In addition, ASQ issues 1 re-certification credits for every article published and 3 re-certification credits for every book published.
