MESSAGE FROM THE EDUCATION CHAIR

Dear ASQ Members:

A new ASQ section 703 fiscal year has begun and so it's the best time of the year to unveil the first part of what we hope will be the start of a new type of educational program that we expect will make us the section all other sections choose to benchmark.  Of course, that depends upon you're continued and excellent feedback and support.

If you recall my last five messages (see March, April, May, June, July) were all about National ASQ

and our officer's efforts to improve the way we meet your educational needs.  Therefore, by now you're bursting with anticipation!!!

I know what you're thinking, "what radical new change in the way our section handles it's educational program could ever make me want to participate" ... right?  Well, here are some of the features:

  • We call it an "Educational Cafeteria" approach.

  • Instead of covering two or three certifications in depth, it will eventually cover all of the certifications offered.

  • Instead of weekly class dates, we plan to offer all educational courses on the third week of every month.  The first week of every month is for planning meetings, the second for our section meeting, the third for educational meetings, and the forth for workshops.  Workshops are more guru based and not likely directly correlated with certifications.

  • Instead of signing up for a 18 week course that covers all pertinent sections of a particular certification, you will sign up for a very short course that covers only the pertinent section you wish to study.

  • Instead of there being one course option for you to choose from, there may be five or six.  Each option might cover similar material to varying degrees, be more or less directly oriented to a particular certification, cost different amounts, or have more probability of occurring at the time you'd like to take it.  You select the course that best fits your needs.

  • Instead of re-issuing new courses before every certification exam date, all courses ever offered would be continually offered, then held when the posted minimum number of students sign up.  The on-going number signed up will be posted such that some courses will be more likely held than others at any given date.

  • Instead of taking a course with other students interested in pursuing the same certification you are, you will be taking a course with other students interested in pursuing the same educational topic (or module) that you are.  There may be CQE, CRE, CQM, SSBB, and CQA students all interested in any one course so the likelihood of it occurring will be much greater.

Now for the moment you've been waiting for ....

The first part of the Educational Cafeteria is a table as shown below that outlines all the modules and sub-modules that we plan to teach.  These modules were re-assembled from the bodies of knowledge's of all certification types offered.  Depending upon your Internet browser, you should be able to click on the "click expand" URL to see sub-modules.  Please send Kim an email if you can't use this feature.
