MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR

"Quality Enforcement"

One of the key requirements of the ISO 9000-2000 standard is the demonstration of
“Management Commitment.” In my vocabulary this usually means “Thou Shalt or Else.”

The following information was taken from an article in the current version of Quality Digest Magazine provides a measure of the effect of management commitment in Best in Class companies.

Quality Drives Competition

Fifty-four percent of best-in-class companies said that enforcement of quality procedures was the top strategic action for their companies, according to a newly released report, "The Product Quality Benchmark Report: Achieving Quality Across the Global Manufacturing Network."

"Strategic Actions by Best-in-Class Companies".  Survey results, percentage of respondents from best in class companies:

  • Enforce quality procedures enterprisewide = 54%

  • Implement closed loop corrective action programs = 38%

  • Design products with quality assurance built in = 38%

  • Interactively measure and improve quality of incoming materials = 23%

  • Increase inspection of work in progress and finished products = 23%

The study, performed by AberdeenGroup, also found that best-in-class organizations are significantly more likely to have a global quality program in place and four times more likely than average performers to empower their decision makers with Web-based integrated technologies.

The entire survey may be viewd at www.aberdeen.com

Abstract

Traditional element-based auditing for compliance is no longer sufficient to today’s competitive market place. Business today requires continuous improvement and customer satisfaction.

In this presentation you will learn techniques to audit to your actual business management practices -- not to a “series of clauses”.   You will learn how to widen the scope of audits to include interactions of processes and increase the depth of audits to include effectiveness.
