MESSAGE FROM THE EDUCATION CHAIR

"Record Meeting Turnout"

Section Members & Honored Eavesdroppers,

Earlier this month we broke all recent records with over 70 people turning out to hear our two speakers (see details here).  Our officers suspect possible control factors (reasons) to be:

  • The speaker also sent out a mailing and attracted several non-members

  • Meeting attendance is up now that we are offering pre-clinics

  • Doug's special message and call for your attendance

  • This time of year is typically better

  • Our membership is growing again for two years now after several previous years of slow decline

  • The pre-meeting clinic was on a topic that affects the majority of us

Can you think of other reasons?

Current Educational Course Status

  • The CQE refresher course is underway.  See details on our refresher course page.   We have the CQA and CSQE starting very soon.

Other Announcements

  • National Engineers Week (NEW) banquet tickets available to the first 8 members that respond before Wednesday.  The event is at USD this Friday evening.  Contact Kim if you are interested.  The board may issue the $37 tickets for free.

  • New rates for early RSVPs for membership meeting are $5.00 Discount plus 1 extra raffle tickets.  Also that another color of the ticket will be given to people who are eating dinner. Early RSVP's are considered more than one week before the meeting.

  • Several new jobs have recently been posted on our jobs page at http://www.asqsandiego.org/jobs.htm ... and keep sending them in.

  • Don't forget to check out our sponsor pages.  Great courses and products being offered!!  See links at the bottom of this email.   Note that our new sponsor Larry Buck Consulting hasn't received any sign-ups from our section for his audit training class next month here in San Diego.  Let's show him we care about his sponsorship and sign up now!! See more here.

  • The board welcomes back Bud Russell as our new Membership Chair.  He was a Treasurer in past years.

  • Don't forget to check out other local events on our local event calendar

I look forward to hearing from you and or seeing you soon,

Sincerely,

Dave Clinard

Education Committee Chair

Bargaining With Benjamin

by Gregg Oliver, officer of section 703

(web page on our site)

Benjamin Franklin was a very good persuader. His style was to win people over slowly and, often, indirectly.  Franklin would say that, if you don’t win the bargain today, go after it again tomorrow.  Lets expand on this ...

The AIAG (Auto Industry Action Group) comprised of the big three US automotive companies developed the eight disciplines to problem solving.  These 8D's have now caught on in all industries and the tool linked here is a great form that you can use internally, for your customers, or suppliers.
