Stagnating Education Programs ... Time for a Kick Start

As you know, our ASQ SD education programs have been weak so far this year.  It's not for lack of qualified instructors, it's due to lack of coordinator time to put the program together.  Planning a course takes a lot of time and effort and we quality professionals are not only volunteering our time to ASQ but have been very busy this year.  I hope being busy continues to be a trend ... <smile>.   

We still need to support our education programs.  Therefore, rather than plod forward on all fronts, we've decided to test out some changes to the way we plan and conduct educational business ... so to speak.  We will continue to offer our highly successful CSQE refresher course starting in August coordinated and taught by Dave Clinard but we have decided to try out a different concept with regard to all the technical CQE, CRE, CSSBB, and CSSGB courses with one year long course that just continues on forever.  If this works, it will require a lot more planning from our students because it isn't setup to target a specific test date.  However, it will significantly reduce the coordination aspect of planning these courses.  Success depends upon you deciding to take the classes or not. 

Here's a first draft concept.  Every six months, after meeting every other week for two hours, we will complete all the topics listed below.  We have approximately 15 students interested and two locations to hold them in (Kearney Mesa and Poway).  The nights with the x at the top would be special topic oriented workshop nights.  The topics covered could be taken in matrix course fashion (pay for that night only) or by the refresher course option (CRE, CQE, CSSBB, CSSGB).  The costs will be $39 for workshop nights, $34 for any matrix course night (not topic specific), $299 for any refresher course option which includes any 10 classes that you decide to attend, and $380 to attend all 14 classes.   Multiple meeting locations will likely be used ... including your company?

The first class is scheduled to start August 16, 2006 at Delta Design in Poway from 4pm to 6pm without any food or books required.  Classes will meet every other Wednesday.  Hand outs will be provided.  No books are required but a list of recommended books will be handed out.  Matrix and workshop fees paid can be applied to refresher course payments.  The default material to be covered is a review of associated CQI Primers however, instructors will make an effort to develop their own material that is more interactive and applicable.  They will also make an effort to hand out more information than is covered during the meeting.  ASQ SD will provide calculators when needed.
