MESSAGE FROM THE EDUCATION CHAIR

"An Educational Meeting"

Section Members & Honored Eavesdroppers,

This month's section meeting was educational for everyone including our section officers.  We learned a lot about how to get the audience to participate.  Our panel discussion meeting was an experiment by our section to see if we could do this sort of thing on a larger scale during October's national conference here in San Diego.

Highlights of what went well:

  • The room setup was theater style vs. dinner style.  We had one complaint that it was an unexpected shocking change but for the most part it seemed to group people closer together and was a nice change.

  • The food was finger food style which cost twice as much but was well received.  There was no charge for dinner which made a few people especially happy.

  • Rick did a great job as a moderator.

  • All the panelist seemed to engage and were well received.

  • Approximately 50-80% of the audience got to speak and had great questions and comments to say.

  • The 3x5 question cards worked well prior to the meeting.

  • The topic seemed to appeal well for all those that attended.  Everyone seemed to want to stay much longer and we did run out of time.

Highlights of what we could improve on:

  • Only about 45 people showed up.

  • We didn't advertise that the meal was free.

  • The video recorder ran out of batteries.

  • Name tags need to be prepared previously to look professional

  • The hand writing on the poster board couldn't be read well in the back

  • We could have been better prepared to greet and assist, especially those 1st timers.  Membership forms should also have been made available.  ASQ brochures and other examples such as some Quality Progress magazines could have been added to the display table.

Current Educational Course Status

  • We need 5 more students to be able to start the CQI on August 1.  Several new courses are now just being offered (CQI, CSQE, and CSSBB).  See details on our refresher course page.

Other Announcements

I look forward to hearing from you and or seeing you soon,

Sincerely,

PPAP is an acronym for Production Part Approval Process [pronounced ‘P - Pap] Initially developed by AIAG (Auto Industry Action Group), PPAP has now spread to just about every other industry. PPAP is used to formally reduce risks prior to product or service release, in a team oriented manner using well established tools and techniques.
