MESSAGE FROM THE EDUCATION CHAIR

"Last Ed. Message"

Section Members & Honored Eavesdroppers,

Business is up for me but the additional time out-of-town and increased workload precludes me from maintaining an adequate level of support to this section.  I have been unable to attend any local meetings let alone provide the Education Chair services I would expect to ensure that we provide a valuable service to our members.  With this in mind, it is with regret that I have to resign from the position of Education Chair so that a more deserving and available candidate can be selected/elected.  If you are interested in the position or can recommend another member, please contact our Chair Doug McCloskey.

Most Recent Test Proctoring Statistics

Emelito Ong and his team are reporting the following results regarding test taking during our March 3, 2007 exam.  Note that only about half of all of the choices were offered.

Current Educational Course Status

Please continue to sign up for the courses you are interested in

Do you have an ASQ certification and a desire to earn RU's, and cash while helping our education board plan and or teach courses?  Contact me if so.

Other Announcements

I look forward to hearing from you and or seeing you soon,

Sincerely,

Officers at large in behalf of Keith Boyle

Education Committee Chair

ASQ Section 0703

The Board of Directors of the San Diego ASQ, on behalf of the membership, would like to congratulate Keith Boyle. The upswing in his business is a testament to his capability and we'd like to thank him for 2 years of service to the local section as Education Officer. All of us that have taken classes from Keith, either through his consulting practice ( www.qprs.com ) or at the University of San Diego are grateful for his commitment to education.

"Reliability Part11 -HaltHass"

(176kb pdf file; viewer at page bottom)

by Hank Posters

Highly Accelerated Life Testing (HALT) and Highly Accelerated Stress Screening (HASS) are different from standard life testing. Contrary to quantitative accelerated life testing described in previous chapters, the goal of qualitative accelerated test methods like HALT and HASS is to identify failures and failure modes without attempting to make predictions as to the product’s life under normal use conditions. The main purpose of HALT is to quickly detect and eliminate the weak elements of a design or product. HALT is not intended to demonstrate that a product will function in its intended environment.

"HACCP E-book" FDA web tool link

See  http://vm.cfsan.fda.gov/~lrd/haccp.html

HACCP is an acronym which stands for Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point.  The FDA offers an extensive site (E-book) on the subject of this process control based methodology.

Make sure you visit our virtual Library, open 24 Hrs/day, 7days a week, and please bounce back your favorite Quality related library thoughts and submissions (i.e. comments, e-book links, old term papers, article links, articles you've written, etc.).
