FROM THE CHAIR

Greetings Quality Professionals!
September is here, the heat is on and the kids are finally in school! We are at the end of summer, have done our back to school shopping and are trying hard to keep our coo! |

|
ASQ Day at the Padres
One way to “Keep Our Cool”, celebrate the end of summer, the beginning of school and promote attendance is to plan to attend your local ASQ Section Meeting on September 10th
. We are sponsoring ASQ Day at the Padres on Sunday, September 22nd
when our San Diego Padres play their archrivals: the L.A. Dodgers, game time 2:00 P.M.
100 $10 tickets will be available for ASQ Section 0703 members and immediate family only. The tickets will only be available at the September 10th
Section Meeting only and will be sold on a “Buy 1, Get 1 Free” – on a first come, first served basis.
Your ASQ Officers and Board members have committed to serve you a free lunch at our tailgate party prior to the game. The festivities will begin at noon at the Qualcomm Stadium where we will have barbequed chicken, hotdogs, hamburgers, soft drinks and a side dish or two. This is sure to be a fun event for you and your loved ones, so come to the meetings and buy your tickets early! Be sure to check the website (ASQ Day at the Padres).
ISO 13485, The Global Medical Device GMP 3-Hour Workshop
The well attended August 28 3-Hour Workshop was conducted by Mr. James E. Stanley, MS, CQE, CQA and Associate Director of Compliance & Medical Devices for Regulatory Clinical Consultants, Inc.
Jim’ gave us an excellent presentation including an in depth review of ISO/DIS 13485, the impact of ISO 9001:2000 and information about what is needed to do business in various countries with an emphasis on Canada and Europe. Because he has extensive experience as an ISO Lead Assessor and performs certifications with ISO registrars in quality systems compliant with FDA regulations, ISO 9001, EN 46001, and ISO 13485; he lent a perspective to the subject that was comprehensive yet easy to understand.
The highlight of the evening was an exercise in planning and preparing an Audit checklist based on . implementation considerations of the standard. Audit implications, including how to audit and what auditors will look for to assess compliance was discussed in detail. All attendees agreed that this was one of the best values in recent memory for such a rewarding training opportunity.
Statistics for Quality Engineering: DOE and Other Techniques 3-Hour Workshop
Make it a point to come out and find out how you can apply these valuable statistical tools to your organization for a very low price when Dr. Leonard Perry of USD will be presenting on this interesting topic on September 25th. This is sure to be a very good Workshop where all your questions and Statistical challenges will be answered Be sure to check the website (3hr workshop page).
Invitation
Please come out and invite your colleagues to join ASQ and attend these informational and enjoyable functions. We are hoping to increase our Membership’s attendance at 3 Hour Workshops and Section Meeting by rewarding them with door prize raffles, fun events and a stimulating series of educational opportunities. I encourage each and every one of you to take advantage of these and other events by checking our website for the very latest information on Local jobs, Workshops, Refresher Courses, Regional and National Seminars and Conferences.
Please feel free to contact us if there are some topics you would like to see presented next year. Hope you had a great summer and we look forward to seeing you on September 10th
